Purim and Hamentaschen

For those of you who don’t know, I am Jewish, and the Jewish holidays have also been really special to me, even though I don’t celebrate them very actively. Purim, one of my favorite Jewish holidays, was on Thursday, and I wanted to share with you all what it’s all about. On the outside Purim is basically the Jewish Halloween. People dress up in costumes, share sweets and tell “scary” stories. Purim, however, like all other Jewish holidays is steeped in history and mythology. The holiday originates from the Book of Esther which retells the rise in power of Queen Esther, the most beautiful, savior of the Jews.
