How to Make Cold Brew Coffee

Hey Readers!

Are you enjoying the warmer weather? I sure am. I’m loving opening the windows as soon as I’m up in the morning and sipping my coffee while eating pancakes and listening to vinyl. Perfectly idyllic. Now you may be thinking, “How can you drink hot coffee when it’s so hot outside!?” That’s the trick, I’m not! I’ve been making my own cold brew coffee by the gallon for years. It’s my favorite way to drink coffee in the summer, so I can still get my fix without melting my face off. Now, mind you, there is something therapeutic about a tossing back a hot cup of coffee, and its still my preferred way to eat scones, but cold brew coffee with some cream and a hint of sweet is my go-to to beat the summer heat. And I want to teach you how to make it.

Alchohol Free, Caffeine Free: How does that happen

I was wandering through the grocery store the other day, and was drawn to the wine department, as per usual. While gazing across the lovely multitude of labels I saw something that sparked my curiosity. A brand called Fre was touting alcohol free wine. I know that decaffeinated coffee is a thing, I use it at home when I’m entertaining, as well as decaf teas, but it got me thinking. How do companies suck the “good stuff” out of these products? Scent in coffee

Hot, iced, straight, with milk, espresso, cold brew, whole bean, instant: however you take it, the world runs on coffee. Just like wine, coffee comes in many families and varieties, and is directly impacted by the soil it grows in. The best coffee for brewing rich roasts is arabica, or at least it’s the most common with more than 40 known varietals. The similarities between coffee and wine don’t stop there, though: both are made from a berry fruit, both contain tannins, and both were banned by strict Muslim and Christian sects for the ways they alter the mind and body. Coffee and wine are both also often described by reference to notes, terroir and varietal, which makes coffee a great way to learn about the subjects for those not quite old enough or with a mature enough palate to experience wine. Clarity and Brightness

Hi Readers!

This week, I am excited to talk about clarity and brightness, the first two qualities we examine when beginning a formal tasting evaluation. While unassuming and apparently basic, both of these qualities can tell us a lot about our wine and foods. The level of clarity informs us to particulates that may be found. Brightness, meaning the level of luminescence of the subject, can tell us a variety of things depending on the subject itself.
