Not only are we full swing into holiday season, but the new year is right around the corner too. Last week I mentioned that I prefer to set goals throughout the year as opposed to new years resolutions. We’ve discussed a few of the ways I tend to go about this in my post about 90 day goals, and my series about finding your happy.
I just updated my level 10 life chart and know where I still need to make vast improvements. Last year I set up these definitions for myself as to what I thought level 10 and the lower levels in these categories would look like. At this point, I took the time to reevaluate my definitions and see if anything needed any tweaking, but generally this is how I measure my progress. Over the last year I’ve made a lot of progress in categories like family and friends, and marriage, and I have made notable progress in health and in my physical environment and a little in my career and spirituality. I’ve made almost no progress in my contributions category.
I am still working on my 90 day goals for the last quarter, but I can still choose goals for 2018 based on my current levels. I’m sharing my goals for 2018 now, with the hopes that you all will help hold me accountable. Feel free to share yours below so we can work together to make 2018 the best year yet.
My goals for 2018
Family and Friends
I want to host monthly get togethers, not counting my Dungeons and Dragons nights. I would like to rotate between wine dinners, game nights, girls night and other outings.
There are a few habits I would like to make and break this year. I want to be a tidier person, but I also want to be more relaxed and to stop stressing so much. I want to completely re-do my cleaning schedule so that I can get it done, and still have more free time.
I had set a goal for this past year to get to Temple, but I still haven’t gone. I think I am afraid to, to be honest, but it’s still on my to do list. I really want to go one night during Hanukkah, so hopefully I can make that happen before the end of the year. I also want to have intellectual conversations with other people about religion and spirituality. So figuring out how to make that happen in the coming year is a substantial goal of mine.
My finances are a mess, between not working 6 months this year and the pre-existing debt problems we had, we need a serious clean up. This year, I plan to get on a debt repayment plan, build up my emergency and rainy day savings, and improve my and my husband’s credit scores.
I know I just started my new job, but it’s never too soon to think about the future. So, this year I will be making sure I’m on the right track for a raise and a promotion. I took a pay cut from my last paying job when I accepted this position because I knew there was a lot of potential for me in this company. I will work with my supervisors to make sure I’m on the best path possible for my professional growth.
Every marriage is a work in progress, the moment you stop working on your relationship is the moment it starts to die. I want to improve my communication with my husband, because he deserves it. I also want to improve the way I react to him when he says something careless. He is very forgetful so I need to be patient with him and find a balanced way to communicate my frustrations and support him in his efforts to improve as a person and a partner.
Fun and recreation
I want to get out and travel more, this year I would like to start doing weekend trips to surrounding states. I plan to taste local wines, beers and foods and report back here, as kind of a mini travel guide. We also intend to go out to California this summer. All of this of course will depend on our financial situation, but there are ways to do it for cheap
Giving and contributions
I fully intended this past year to volunteer with different groups and town. It didn’t happen. So this coming year I plan to contact all of the groups in January and only volunteer 6 times. I also want to help with a food drive, sponsor someone with an angel tree make a blanket for the homeless shelter and maybe a few other things.
I actually still love my apartment, but there are definitely a few things I would change. #1, clean it and keep it clean, we have so much stuff and in progress projects, and with two cats who love to knock stuff over it just looks overwhelming messy all the time. So I want to get my house clean and organized and keep it that way. #2 I want a new couch!! #3 paint the hutch!
Health and fitness
I still want to lose weight. It’s doctor recommended and it will make me physically and emotionally feel better, so my goal for 2017 is to lose 30 lbs. This is approximately 2.5 lbs per month, which isn’t a hard goal, the struggle is getting it done.
So these are my goals for the coming year, what are yours? Share them below, or if you want some extra help e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to working towards my goals with you all cheering me on!
